Floating in the void
Many can relate to the feeling of transition, the sensation of floating in an endless void. Seeing where you’d like to be, but not knowing where to go to get there. Pursuing a plan only to realize halfway through the execution that it was nothing you wanted in the first place. Following prescribed steps, then questioning: is this truly how I'm meant to feel for the rest of my life?
It feels like you are the dots on the screensaver bouncing along the edges with no real destination, only to reach the perfect spot momentarily, then back to the endless bouncing around. It’s so crazy how you can easily relate to a few dots bouncing on a screen when you’re going through a transition in life. The fear of not knowing exactly what to do and what purpose you hold to get through life. To be told you’re talented and yet, to never feel like you are enough or will be successful with the talents you were given. BACK TO THE VOID YOU GO!
Many people talk...
Many people discuss career transitions as if they're a simple car wash, but rarely delve into the mental toll such a shift can take. Or how difficult it can be to pursue dreams, only to find out midway that it’s not what you expected it would be like. We often envision a job as primarily performing the work itself, only to realize it's 10% doing what you love and 90% of emails and trying to explain why you’re good at what you do. Leaving you utterly exhausted.
Many people mention turning failure into success, but breeze over how hard the failure actually is before learning and turning it into a success. They don’t talk much about the suck, and how you feel as if you are floating losing track of reality and no sight of the ground. Everyone has their own spaceship and got the memo on how to operate it, yet you feel so alone and clueless, floating with nothing to hold onto. You work so hard on what you think your purpose is, but it’s just throwing paint and hoping for the best. You might freeze, succumbing to harsh self-criticism that spirals into depression. Then, the ego often steps in, creating an anxiety that blocks you from moving forward. You are in a floating spiral, wondering if you’ll see the ground.
Eventually, you seek the landing pad
Eventually, you seek the landing pad. But you are still unsure how to land, at least you see the path. It’s relieving that there is a glimpse of hope and the possibility emerging out of the void. You start to feel your feet rotate back underneath you, you look to the left and right, and notice you weren’t alone. You had people in the background watching you from afar, ready to lift you and support you when needed. A few nudges to get you on track and to help you realize the vision is possible. It’s just a few pit stops, bumps, detours, and potential breakdowns that are part of the journey. It's okay to float; just know that eventually, even if only momentarily, you will find solid ground.
